ANSWERS TO THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MEDICAL DEVICE.

Please, precisely how does the method of molecular orthopaedics work?

Serum collection with the EOT®II syringe is quite straightforward: The production of Autologous Conditioned Serum (ACS) is easy and quickly carried out in certified labs. After sampling in one single session, the blood is incubated in the patented medical device EOT®II syringe. Later, the treated blood is centrifuged in the laboratory of the doctor’s office and thereby separated into solid components and cell-free serum. This contains enriched growth factors and interleukin antagonists. Usually the doctor will prepare the Autologous Conditioned Serum (ACS) on the very day of blood collection. The serum may be stored for 7 months at -21 °C (-6 °F) until use. The Autologous Conditioned Serum (ACS) is individually prepared for each patient under laboratory conditions at the orthopaedist’s. Applied since 1997, the process is being used by several hundred orthopaedic surgeons in many countries, who have treated hundreds of thousands of patients within nearly 20 years.

For which diagnoses is the EOT®II SYRINGE used?

About two million people in Germany suffer from age-related osteoarthritis of the joints. Because of the high incidence and the often unsatisfactory outcomes, the need for safe and effective orthopaedic treatment methods is very high. Under the pressure of the increasing annual number of joint operations (so-called total endoprosthesis or for short TEP) and considering the resulting cost burden on the healthcare system in Germany, there is a huge need for the extension of existing as well as new conservative treatment methods. In other words, for medical procedures for preserving the knee joint without requiring surgery. Enter ORTHOGEN Lab Services GmbH. From the patient’s serum, the attending physician enriches, in a molecular orthopaedic procedure using the medical device, patient-specific anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving proteins. The EOT®II syringe is used by orthopaedic surgeons in the context of conservative therapy of the following conditions:

  • Osteoarthritic joint pain
  • Dorsal pain
  • Tendon and muscle pain

What about the cost?

This is a self-pay patient service which is not reimbursed by statutory health insurance providers yet – but fortunately by some private health insurance companies. For the preparation of a sufficient amount of autologous conditioned serum (ACS), depending on the indication, as a rule 3 – 6 EOT®II syringes are required. Additionally, further, patient-specific costs are incurred for medical treatment according to the physicians’ fee schedule. The costs depend on the type and severity of the disease and the physician’s related therapeutic expenses. Thus, prices may differ among physicians. Please consult your doctor in advance.

Is the molecular orthopaedic method available in pharmacies as well?

You can obtain the molecular orthopaedic method solely from a physician certified by orthogen – not from your pharmacy. For the medical device EOT®II syringe required for this is supplied by Orthogen directly to your doctor, so the latter can carry out the treatment and storage of your serum in his or her officially registered laboratory.
